Analysis On “Fewer Farms to Feed ‘Local’ Appetite”

Yes, Craig V., Yes! Central and Northern California farmers know how to raise tons of food and cooking recipes – literally. Orchard fruits and nuts, grains, cattle – the food basket of the U.S., not just California. Now the extremists are trying to shut them down, while complaining about lack of local food. Ironic, eh?

Furthermore, it seems to me that these food fads are always being proposed by people who want somebody else to pay for it and to do the work. Once they find out how hard they have to work to produce food, they lose their enthusiasm for growing the stuff and turn to coercion – both in funding and working.

What’s wrong with small backyard gardens? I have one and trade my overproduction with my friends’ and neighbors’ overproduction. Works really well. I just drank my last quart of homemade Concord grape juice. Yum! I’m still working on eating the potatoes I’ve grown and have some ginger-tomato jam and a few other jars of canned produce in my little pantry. These SF people need lessons in neighborliness and hard work.
